Dave’s expertise with classic bikes leads to impressive global success

In retirement, keen biker Dave Young of Pulborough has found the pull of classic and vintage motorcycles too great to resist.

Lured back to the world of restoration, where he once worked for the legendary firm Bol D’or Motocycles in Worthing - which closed down in the late eighties disappointing many local enthusiasts – the Bol D’or banner is flying once again at a character barn in the heart of Pulborough.

Dave, and his wife, Mafra, have found such a gap in the market that last week they sold three classic bikes, fully restored by Dave – one to Japan, another to America and the third to Australia. Not only that, but since they opened the business 16 months ago, which is in Stane Street Nurseries, Codmore Hill, Pulborough, they have restored and sold some 119 motorcycles, many of them classics. Theirs is a true success story in a dipping economy, when many businesses are struggling to survive.

Mafra said: “This is the fifth motorcycle that we have sold to Japan in the last few months. We seem to have found a niche in the market that no-one else is filling at the moment."

“Dave started this as a part-time hobby which has escalated. He just loves renovating old bikes and sources them from America and other outlets, spending hours restoring them to their former glory. They are all true British classics and we hadn’t realised there was such an international demand for them.”

“However, while we are extraordinarily grateful for the success we are having, we will always continue to concentrate on putting our loyal base of customers first.”

The couple now employ a freight company for their global shipments and a dedicated motorcycle delivery service to anywhere in the UK for a very competitive price. They also have an excellent website, www.boldormotorcycles.co.uk ; - however they intend to retain the personal touch that has won them so many admirers both here and internationally.
